I have a pet Maltese and my aunt has a Shi Tzu and they seemed to act the same except for that fact that my Maltese has more energy than the Shih Tzu, who would rather sleep.

Maltese are all white, and that bark will have you scraping yourself off the ceiling! ShihTzu are more diversified in color, and love to play all the time. They are also very smart. They have a normal bark for their size. If you're going to buy one or the other, please, get a ShihTzu…you'll be glad you did!

There is a difference in size and color. Maltese is a little bigger.

We bought a Maltese from a breeder. She is now 4 1/2 months old. She barks constantly and is still biting because of teething I assume. I have always had poodles and they are nothing like the Maltese. We still can’t pad train her she likes using a black rug at the door of our apartment for #1 and another black rug by the slider for #2. When we get her up in the morning from her crate we take her directly to the bathroom where her pads are and shut the door but she still waits until she gets out in the living room or dining room to do her business. We have tried everything and also for her barking but no relief in site yet. If you have any suggestions for either problem please do let me know. Thanks!
