How can I stop my female shihtzu from wetting??????
I have a six month old female shihtzu and I have only had her for a week and I was wondering if there is a way I can stop her from urinating when she gets excitied, she does not urinate a large amount but it gets on the couch and on visitors clothing and I have to stop her from doing this.I do not want to limit her water intake ,I keep her a full fresh bowl out at all times. She has not been fixed does anyone know if this will stop her? Or any suggestions to help?
sounds like a submissive behavior. if she is urinating when excited, try not greeting her right away when you get home same with people coming to the house instruct them to ignore the "cute" puppy for a minute or two this should start to cure the problem. if you try to reassure her , she will think your praising her for urinating and will urinate even more if you scold her , she will feel an even greater need to apologize by urinating. i looked this info up its at perfect paws.com lots of good read

I had the exact same problem with my female shih tzu. everytime she'd get excited [like when new people came over] she'd urinate where ever she was at during that time. she grew out of it in a few months. but if you want to try to stop it sooner, you could always give her a firm "no" if you catch her doing it. also you could try to discourage her getting so excited that shes urinates.
hope this helped some!
