Help! My shihtzu dog has just swallowed a whole chicken drumstick and ?
I'm worried whether he will be okay.
He didn't choke while chewing.
Will the (whole) bones digest in his stomach?
Any suggestions please?
Thanks all, I have called the vet and they said he should be ok but could suffer with constipation and should just keep an eye on him.
I hadn't fed him the drumstick he had pinched it when I was not looking.
If the drumstick was raw he will digest this. If it was cooked he could have problems. Keep a close watch on his stools.

Well I have been told that Chicken Bones are the worst for a dog to swallow because they will break apart and could hurt them inside. I would contact your vet just to be sure that he is ok or if there is something you should be doing! Good Luck

dogs shouldnt be given chicken bones to eat or chew because they are very brittle and splinter which could cut your dogs mouth or throat or worse cause it to choke
the fact that he has swallowed it whole means there is less chance of this happening but you need to get him down the vet as soon as possible

hi, i'm sure your vet as 24 hour emergency.call them.you dont have to pay anything apart from phone call abd at least you will know what to do if something is needed.
