I have a shih-tzu who loves all kinds of treats. I never change her food because it's bad for them to be swapping the food but the treats are ok. The vet told me there isn't any reason she can't have them.

It doesn't matter the kind of treats you give. Just don't feed too many! We do a lot of training in dog agility and use all sorts of treats! Our dogs love string cheese(in moderation), jerky treats, canine carryouts, natures balance and all sorts! Just don't feed too many! They are great to train your dog to do new tricks!

As a matter of fact, Canidae makes dog treats and biskets too.
Look for them at the store where you purchase your Canidae! My golden's really like then and the ones made by Old Mother Hubbard too!

I'm sorry Brigitte, Sweetie, but what is canidae?

Before I became disabled I raised Shih-Tzu's and their diet depended on their overall health in general. As you know, they can develop respiratory problems (it's that flat little nose!) and seizures, so diet is important. A healthy Shih-Tzu, or any breed for that matter, can and and should be fed canned food as well as "kibble". Beware of 'grazing' though because dogs don't know when to quit eating and will eat until they make themselves sick! ugh!

Yes, they can be any kind of dog treats because my dog has caniday food also and we give him any kind of dog treats. the vet said it was okay also.

Glad to hear you are feeding your dogs a quality kibble!! Good for you. IMHO I would only feed a super premium treat as well. I think of it as feeding organic food to a child, then taking them to Mickey Dee's for desert. Canidae's snap biscuits are great and pretty inexpensive.

Yes, it is fine to mix & match brands.

    For example:
    - I feed Merrick food:

    - I give EVO biscuits:
