Are shih tzus allowed to eat human food?

I feed my shih tzu left over bones and some rice and stuff like that and sometimes i wonder if some type of food might give him a disease or get him sick.

i used to feed my dog table food / scraps / everything else, and now she's diabetic because of her diet. some dogs have systems that are way more sensitive than human beings', and you never know how it could affect them.

the best thing to do is to just feed it dog food. you can also try baking your own dog treats for them (they have recipes and kits you can purchase, or you can bake canned dog food). sometimes dogs refuse to eat their own food after they're used to eating human food.

    most animal bones are bad to feed because they may sliver off in the throat or body and can hurt them, especially a small dog. rice is good though! soft stuff maybe better fo a smaller dog

    Well, it's always best to stick with the same food routine everyday to keep the dog healthy & happy. Although they enjoy human food, it may interfere with his dog food diet and lead to health problems. There are some foods that dogs don't digest well, I think corn is one example.

    Chocolate is very dangerous to dogs, never give any to your dog.

    Just don't feed him chicken bones (they shard too easily). It's not a great idea to feed him much human food. They (dogs) gain weight easily and dog food does a better job of providing appropriate nutrition.

    well… i mean all dogs really arent supposed to but once in awhile wat the heck it aint gonna hurt

    No bird bones.. the splinter into smaller pieces and can cause problems… Also no milk, chocolate, etc the normal things…

    I feed my shih tzu french fries… and share my hamburgers with him…. occasionally… CHILL PEOPLE

    Human food as a rule of thumb, is not good for any dog. Dog foods are especially made to avoid alot of things that we put in our bodies that are even worse for dogs than for us. So I don't advise giving table scraps, but alot of people still do.

    No chicken bones, no chocolate, no milk products. Chicken bones splinter, chocolate is toxic to dogs, and they are not able to digest milk. Use common sense though. If you wouldn't eat it, don't give it to your dog. My dogs love chips, so they get them once in awhile as a treat.
    Be careful though, once a dog gets a taste of human food regularly, they won't want their own food.

    Actually, any vet will tell you not to give any dog "people food". However, I give my little tastes all the time, but I'm careful about what I share with them Nothing really salty, and nothing really fatty or sweet. NO CHOCOLATE. I would be careful about the bones, NO CHICKEN BONES, Because they can splinter and really hurt them internally. But plain rice is just fine in moderation.

    It could cause pancreatitis and upset stomach. Some dogs do not handle to much fat well and it can make them sick.
    Some will not hurt but shih tzus are small and they can get
    upset tummys easily. It does not take much food for them to become ill. Best net is dog food only and sometreat made for pets.

    Bones always have the chance of getting stuck in the throat and can cause choking …rice is good for all dogs, and if they will eat them veggies are good too.In all reality if you where to ask a vet they would tell you not to feed them any human food.

    It's not a good idea to feed people food to dogs, unless there is truly no alternative: People food tends to have way too much salt in it for a little critter's system. Rice might be all right, if it's not salted: At least, it is used in some commercial dog foods.

    Large beef bones are all right for a dog to chew on. But pork bones shatter, and chicken bones will splinter. Which will mean trouble for your dog's stomach and intestines.
