I have a one and a half year old Shih Tzu. Usually after each bath and at other times when we are just cuddling her or something we would give her a combing but her hair can somehow or rather get knotted the very next morning. I use the shampoo Fido for her baths but just wondering if there is another way.
I would recommend a conditioner too. It will help the hair have less static and becomes less to knot or matt. Daily brushing will also help..

id say brush her more often, and you could possibly try to put alittle bit of conditioner in her hair or get some detangle spray or something and see if that helps.

I use baby shampoo and a conditioner on my "kids". That and LOTS of brushing. Especially by the tail and the armpits!

Yes, your dog needs to be thoroughly(!!) groomed with a pin brush at least once a week. You also need a slicker brush to tease out the mats. Since you don't know how to groom her – you don't use a comb – why not go back to her breeder for a lesson in grooming. Breeders like to see their dogs well taken care of, they should be happy to show you the correct way to groom this dog to keep her looking good.

Take him to a professional groomer nd get him shaved, kinda like a poodle. If you don't want to do that then get some aloe and oatmeal shampoo and use some main and tail conditioner. Brush once a day too.

you could always get the dog a puppy clip, this will reduce the knotting, also get puppy conditioner from a pet store.

To maintain a long coat on a Shih-Tzu takes patience and determination. (I have 2, a male Hunter, and a female Honey). I keep Hunter's coat short, because my husband thinks that he looks girly with a long coat, but Honey's coat stays long. I brush it twice a week thoroughly, and don't bathe her too often(every 2 to 3 weeks) (it drys out their hair, making it tangle worse). I use Mane and Tail shampoo for horses to bathe her in as well.. It isn't expensive and conditions like you wouldn't believe without leaving a ridiculous residue. Also take care when you are "cuddling her" to not *ruff up* her hair. Some matts are unavoidable, but these tips should help some. Also I would suggest that you take her to a professional groomer ever so often(monthly or so) .. It really makes a HUGE difference with their coats.

Hi I have found going to a grooming parlor and trying to find a good conditioner for long haired breeds is good and also when brushing out try talc powder (baby type) massage into the knots and then tease out. If all else fails try a puppy cut about 1 inch is nice.
