I have checked the animal shelters, but I am allergic to most dogs so cannot just have any breed or mix. Sure wish I could. Thanks in advance.

Pay particular attention to what they say about so-called "imperial" shih tzus and run away from anyone promoting them.
Take your time and make sure the breeder is one you are comfortable calling if your 12 week old (or 2 year old) dog has a problem.
