Small Dog and Litter Box?
I'm getting a small puppy…About the size of a cat…adn it's goign to stay t he suze of a cat cuz it's ganna be a small breed (Pomeranian, Pappillon, Imperial Shih tzu, etc.) and I was wondering… Can I use a litter box for it? Or will the cat litter harm her? I want her to use a litter box so she doesn't have to go outside all the time and won't have a greater chance of gettign attacked by our bigger dog, or one of the loose neighborhood dogs…So Will the litter harm her?
Well I have time to take it outside, I just dont' want anythign to happen to her cuz she will be so small. And our bigger dog likes to chase Swuirrells and small rodents and cats… So I dont' want her to get confused with the small dog.
Yes the big dog DOES get along wiht other dogs. I'm goign to take it for walks… The thing is I know the small dog will be safe Cuz the big dog stays outdoors and the little one will stay indoors. I'm going to take her for walks so she will get excersize… and I'm goign to try to get them to get along.. It's just going to take some time…
I had my 2 Chihuahuas litter box trained years ago. They knew to go to the door to alert me if I was home. If I wasn't, they would use the litter box. It never hurt them. However, I did see that there is such a thing as Dog Litter now.

Funny how my answer is the only one w/ a TD. Interesting.

It won't harm her but if you can't take your dog outside and need to use a litterbox, you should stick with cats. Why would your bigger dog attack ?

If you don't want to take her out for a walk, you shouldn't get a dog at all!!! It is important for dogs to go out, play with other dogs! Really, get a cat instead!!!!

No it doesn't really harm them But I would just use puppy pads. Its much safer…My chihuahua uses them b/c your back yard isn't fenced…

The litter won't harm her but you do have to take your dog outside sometimes. And your big dog could learn to love your new little dog. They could be like mother and daughter or mother and son.

nothing will happen

Yes, they can be trained for this, and they do make dog litter now. However, if you have a larger dog that may attack a smaller dog….why on earth would you bring an animal into this possible situation? Does the bigger dog get along with other dogs at all? If he does, then he may be fine. If not, I would wait on getting another dog.

In my opinion, you should not get another dog.
Unless you have very large cats it's possible that the dogs you have listed could grow to be larger than a cat.
Yes, you can use a litter box and, if you check around at various pet stores or online, I believe someone makes dog litter.
I suggest, before you get a small dog, that you work on the behavior and manners of your big dog, especially if you're worried that your big dog would attack a small dog.
