i'm getting a puppy?
on may 14th it is an imperial shihtzu named tucker… any tips on these dogs? don't say they don't exsist they are just mini shih-tzu i know… i also know they have likley chances of heart problems etc… my father is a dog expert and we are willing to get the dog vet treatment
because we know what we are doing we have another dog that is likely to heath issues just not as severe… we have the money for all that kind of stuff
we ALWAYS get our dogs checked out 1-5 days after we get them and go in for yearly heath checks… we are responsible dog owners who love our dogs very much
my parents won't buy anything else they say mutts are too big… for pete sake they said a dauchsund was too big and i already have one
I'm not sure your question is clear but my mom had a shihtzu (who passed away this past christmas) who had tons of eye problems which the vet said is very common in the breed. so that would be something I would suggest you have checked regularly. He had to have several surgeries and I believev his eye popped out once or twice.Even with the problems, she still wants to get another shihtzu. Enjoy your puppy, you sound like you just want to make sure he's being taken care of.

If your dad is a dog expert, why would you buy a dog that you know is likely to have health issues.. Wouldn't an expert know which breed of dog is going to have the least health issues???

I'll go with DP
Why would you willingly buy a dog already defective???? They become part of your family, linger with some awful illness then die, living one sickly life,…and then you have one big heartache.
Purebred dogs are often defective with severe or at least annoying health problems. In breeding is common in purebred dogs, and so health problems are common. That is why cousins and brothers and sisters cannot marry…. resulting children have high probability of birth defects.
I'm sure Tucker is cute as heck, but in your place, go find a mixed breed that will he healthier and part of your life longer…

At one time, I had two beautiful shih tzu girls. They are easy to potty train. It took only a couple of weeks to crate train them. They're chewers though - so you may need to work on that. I don't know how many barbies and shows got chewed up while I had them! Shih tzu's are the best! Good for you and good luck!

I have 3 Shih Tzus and they are the most wonderful dogs in the world. I keep their hair long but keep their hair above their eyes in a top knot so it does not get into their eyes. We have been told that hair in the eyes is a large source of eye infections. We have had allergy problems with one of them and he take antihistamine from time to time.
