my shih-tzu will be 1 in the next march. her hair is curly and dull.. so i got her shaved…. will her hair grow out to be that long,straight, shiny,georgeous show-dog hair?
I have a male who will be 1 year old dec. 14. He has had to get his hair shaved twice. I have found on a website somewhere that after the age of ten to twelve months they get their adult coat and it is easier to take care of. Amen!! So, this last time I had him shaved all over even his head. That was 2 weeks ago and its already getting thicker. Also, on the site it said that during the time they get the adult coat they get mats alot easier and faster. So, I plan on keeping mine cut during that time. Sorry I dont have any more helpful things for you but, maybe we will have it easier after their birthdays! Good luck with her and I bet she will be gorgeous!

It's really important that you keep her well-groomed. It's possible that she will have wavy hair, although that's not desirable if you are wanting to show her.

In order for her hair to have your desired result, it's best to take her to a groomer where they'll bathe her using special shampoos and then blowdry her hair before actually grooming her. Some dogs have naturally curly hair, but if the groomer knows what he/she is doing, it should be relatively straight after it's groomed.

It is possible that the hair will grow in more straight, but not real likely. It can be very common for a shih-tzu to have wavy hair. If you don't like it, blow dry it straight after you give her a bath. My dog loves the blowdryer. To make it fun and for the dog to get used to the dryer, I always rub the area I am drying, so they feel they are getting petted and I can tell if the air gets too hot. I always put the setting on warm, but it still gets too hot sometimes. You could also use a "people" shampoo and conditioner for straight hair, and I have even put gel on my dog.

Yes, the hair that you had shaved is her puppy coat..the new coat will be the adult hair, and should be as you expect, except that show dog's hair is treated much differently than pet's hair, so it isn't likely to be as flowing..

You doubtless have a poor/PET quality dog,w/the genetics that will NEVER grow the correct coat coat *&* fer sure it won't if you keep buzzing it off!!
Prpoer grooming for that show coat entails DAILY combing out,oiling,sectioning & WRAPPING each section! The dog is NOT allowed the opportunity to damage/break even ONE HAIR!
