HELP! My dog…?

I had my little 1 year old Shih Tzu groomed earlier on today. Now, I specifically asked for them not to shave his genitals as he REALLY doesn't like it, I mean to the point where he mopes around for a week, crying like a baby. They haven't done it in previous haircuts, so they obviously know the routine. But I still make sure they know every single time. They are really helpful and nice, and he always boalts to go inside when we pass by.

But today, as I was walking him home from the store, I noticed he kept sitting down to lick himself and that he wasn't carrying his tail right. I looked at him, and saw that he had 2 large razor burns on his penis. I called and the man apologized and said that the groomer claimed that they didn't shave him.

Now my poor dog pays for their mistake. He's writhing on the floor in pain, and I don't know what to do! Please help me. What should I put on the razor burns? Should I bring him to the vet tomorrow? What can I do to help? Thanks so much!

If he was groomed at a large Pet Store's grooming facility, take your dog in- in the morning and ask to speak with the store director. Show him your dog. They will likely refund your grooming and have the dog treated at their in-store Vet.
There's no excuse for razor burn whether you requested them not to shave there or you didn't request it.
That groomer is a danger to dogs. No excuse! Some managers not familiar with grooming may not know how to handle this situation. That's why I suggest you talk to the store director if it was at a large store.
Find a good groomer- get one of the experienced ones at the shop with good referrals and request only that one to groom your dog or go somewhere else for grooming.
If it was an individual grooming facility, you can can talk to the owner but they may pay for a vet visit or deny you. In that case, it may be more of a pain to take it to small claims court, but if you wanted to you could. Take photos, take the dog to the Vet, get a Vet statement and take the groomer to court. OR just get another groomer and chalk it up to experience. The groomer or store should pay. DEFINITELY take him to the Vet tomorrow if it is badly irritated.

this should heal with time, put on some neosporin, it does wonders for any cuts and burns even for dogs. I use this for my dogs any knicks and scratches from playing. I've stopped taking my dogs to the groomers since they are sort of fidgeting with water - my friend's dog got a cut on the eye at the groomers and need eye drops ever since then, some groomers are irresponsible and if you notice anything after you pick up the dog, they will deny anything. oh and put an e-collar on to prevent him from licking the area, it's probably itchy for him, but u want it to heal so he doesn't nip at it.

There's no need to bring him to the vet unless it looks infected. Put Neosporin on the cuts, it'll help keep out bacteria and may help if it's in pain. I use bag balm on my dogs when they get sores too, that's non-toxic if they lick it and it works. If you use Neosporin then try to keep him from licking it a lot, even the same with bag balm, bag balm will not hurt your dog if he licks it, but I don't imagine it's entirely healthy for them.

That is not right.I would call the vet and ask what you should put on them. But if I were you I wouldent bring him back to that place and tell everyone you know not to bring there dogs there.Maybe if people stop going there they will understand the meaning of NO I am sorry about what happend to your poor pup.

I second the Bag Balm and Neosporin, and not taking him to the vet unless it becomes irritated to the point of pain for him, or an infection, of course.

AND, I'd take him back to the groomer and show them what they did, get my money back and never see them again.

Poor pup :(

Anything you put on the razor burns he will lick off. You need to go to a different groomer. I don't know if you need to take him to the vet, but a phone call to ask their advice is probably a good idea.

Put Vaseline on the cuts it will sooth the pain.

Whoa! dont use and E-Collar to keep him from licking it, thats downright cruel! E collar is training tool used to reprimand a dog but only when its done something wrong so licking an injury doesnt apply.
First of all, take the dog to a vet as possible to alleviate the pain.
secondly, Take some kind of action against those groomers! it is beyond belief, what they have done. not only are they negligent (sounds like he has been nicked in the past) and then lying about it after you told them not toshave him there. seriously, now you have a dog with a phobia AND an injury.

aww poor pup, i get upset if my girls are hurting. just try to cool the area down as much as possible. cool wet wash cloth or some natural lotion. you only need to take him to the vet if it gets worse and starts to look infected. best wishes!

Omg. The exact same thing happened to my 1 1/2 year old shih tzu. That was the reason I stopped taking him to get him groomed. I try to groom him myself now. My dog had the razor burn and he also kept sitting down while walking. I didn't take him to the vet and just waited out for awhile. After couple days he felt better. I think your shih tzu will be fine too. If he's having a hard time going for a walk just go for short walks. Good luck!
