Just look in newspapers and eventually one of your breeds/mixes will come up for free. But probably not a puppy, because people would try to sell their puppies for money (it costed them money to raise it after all). At best a puppy of like 6 months or over, at the point when the owners have gotten fed up with it.

Your local shelters or rescues are charging you for vetting. They are passing their discount on to you.

Did u try craigs list in your area? Try the local shelter, as your best bet. They're not free, but much cheaper than the pet store and their prices include spay/neuter and vaccine fees that would have been higher priced other places.
    go to http://www.mypetfinder.com

    as ur best bet

No such thing as a free dog.. Of couse.. :)

You may have luck finding a dog that someone is looking to place into a loving home in the local papers,,
Some words of wisdom about "free" dogs
If your "free to a good home" dog is not up to date on shots, heatworm prevent and altered you will have to spend some money to get all that done..
As far as resuces,, generally charge a minimal fee,, BUT the dogs are up to date, current and generally already altered..

So it might be a good idea.. to compare the adoption fees if the shelteres/resuces in your area call a vet and get a estimate on Exam, Distemper, Rabies, heartworm test, and one for a spay or neuter( you will need a general idea on size.. Small med large breed)
so you can compare expenses.. Generally it is far more expensive.. that most adoption fees.. so it might be a better option,, Neither dog is free.. but inital cost may differ..

Local papers, rescues, shelters are all options..
http://www.petfinder.com is a listing of legitimate not for profit rescues and dogs,,, you can search by breed, size location and such.. there is a general list area to that private owners can post on.. but be carefull about screening all potentials carefully…

    Good luck..

I know this is gonna sound harsh, but I cringe when ppl want to get a free puppy.
There is a reason why shelters charge for dogs – because that seperates the people who are really dedicated to owning a dog and those who are not.
Im not saying ur intentions are bad, but a dog costs alot of money to keep. If an unexpected vet visit was needed would u be able to afford it?
Another thing – U pay for what u get. Free puppies come with alot of risk. Maybe it is best to save up some more money and buy a puppy u can be sure is innoculated and healthy, even if it is from a shelter

sorry…. unless you go to petfinder.com you can maybe put in your specifications and find a puppy for an adoption fee. Other than that, people who breed or have puppies have gotten smarter over the years, especially with smaller dogs. So they charge an arm and a leg and say "It's to ensure a good home" meanwhile, I think it should be about references and proving stability. But, unfortunatly if you know a friend of a friend or get really lucky there isnt much you can find. Like i said try

    petfinder.com
    craigslist.com
    yahoo classifieds…

    etc.

STAY AWAY! frm ones that say FREE! like yorkies and stuff they are fake. beleive me… i got my hopes shot down a long time ago and was heart broken

I saw a few dogs in the newspaper that were for free where I live… too bad I live in NY. Just check you newspaper, sometimes people have to give up their dogs if they're moving. Just make sure you are going to have enough money to take care of him.. such as vet bills and food. Good luck
