Shih Tzu/Pomeranian (Shiranian)
Does anyone know about this Hybrid of dog? I have been searching shelters and breeders far and wide for a little lap dog and I found a lady who is giving a litter away to good homes for free because they are "mongrels". She said I would also have to take care of vaccines and worming myself so I was also wondering if it will be bad for the puppies health not to receive these vital vaccines before they are wean and ready to be adopted?
I also plan on spay or neutering at the appropriate age, I can afford health care for a new puppy and/or dog being that I live minutes to a vet, an SPCA clinic and have access to a vet clinic on a military base…just giving people the heads up because I noticed some people can get snobby and preachy when asked about mixed breeds.
We don't get snobby or preachy about mixed breeds, the majority of us OWN mixed breeds, some of us even own the "designer" breeds but we got them from SHELTERS and don't embrace the stupid titles. Nor do we allow for them to be called HYBRIDS, they're MUTTS.
Its the mutts that get those STUPID fancy names like Shiranian, and once more, people that PAY MONEY for those mutts at stores and from "breeders" who are nothing more than common mutt owners who want to make a quick penny.
I have a "pomshe". A mutt. A mix between a pomeranian and a sheltie. I NEVER call her a pomshe. She's a mixed breed.
If you're getting the dog for free, no problem.
Don't shoot a puppy until AFTER its been weened at eight weeks, after that, your vet can start you on a shooting schedule.

generally is dogs are mongrel it will be healthier coz they both get the good genes of each parents….. maybe yet its better to get the dog and have it checked by vet first

I would take to your vet about the vaccines. I think that puppies get first at 6 weeks then 9 weeks then last at 12 weeks. I'm not exactly sure if that is correct. Im glad that your saving these puppies and getting them altered. Good Luck.

Ok…so…you know that it is a mixed breed…it is not a "Hybrid"….
Never mind tha "fancy schmancy" name…it is a Shi Tzu/Pom cross…Call it that!!!
Puppies should have their first shots between 6-9 weeks of age. If the so-called "breeder" is not willing to do it, you will have to.
If you are in love with the puppy and want it, go for it!! JUST DON'T PAY for it… THe owner has had not vet expenses (since she is not even providing the 1st shots) and if her mother dog had expenses (ie: caesarian section), that is NOT YOUR PROBLEM. The amount of money she has spent on the puppies is only on newspaper (for toilet) and maybe some food, IF puppies are already weaned. Don't take a puppy until 8 weeks of age…then get it to the vet ASAP for first shots.
Good luck…but please don't call it by a "breed" name (Shiranian)….it doesn't exist. BE HONEST!
It is nice that the owner of the pups is giving them away for free…otherwise I would have to be nasty and call her a backyard breeder. Sounds like this was an "OOPPS" and the puppies will end up in the pound without good homes. I am glad she was honest with you.

they should be weinded by at least 5 weeks old
shots can start at 6 weeks old and 4 weeks after that for second set and 4 weeks after 2nd set
or they start shots at 8 weeks,12 weeks and 16 weeks old,last set of shots they are also given rabbi shots

Not a hybrid just a mix, look up both breeds and plan on it having some of the trates from each parent. As soon as you get the puppy take it to the vet, the bigest thing I would be worried about is Parvo. I have rescued puppys before that had no care at all before we took them in and they were fine. It sounds to me like you are asking if someone here is familiar with the mix of pomeranian and shih-tzu. I haven't had a mix of this sort but I'd think you could look up characteristics of both breeds and see which characteristics are prominent in your pup.
Both tend to be feisty little dogs that make up for their smaller size with big spirit.
As far as shots go, if they are given earlier than eight weeks they don't take anyway. So a Vet will usually start the new owners' pup on shots and worming as part of a routine first exam. They should also introduce you to heartworm prevention medication and tell you when to start your pup on it.

I don't have an answer, more of a question. I am actually looking for a small dog as well. We just lost our best pal in January. I think we are finally ready to get a new puppy and it would mean a lot to my children. Would it be possible for you to give me the name of the lady who is giving them away? I would really love to rescue one of them. I too plan on getting it spayed or nuetered. Thank you for your help.
