Purebred Shih Tzu?

So my sister bought a shih tzu puppy from a pet store in Las Vegas, and really didn't have enough time for the little one. She sent the puppy down to me to potty train her, but just as a thought would happen the pup is now mine. I already had one little girl and was thinking about getting her a companion anyway, so it worked out pretty well, but I have some concerns about her being from a pet store. So far she is healthy and problem free, but she just doesn't look like a purebred shih tzu. Her nose is a little longer than any shih I have seen, and her tail doesn't curl the same way. I love her to death and she is just the sweetest little thing, so it wouldn't bother me if she wasn't purebred, but I am considering breeding her when she is old enough and wouldn't want to sell her pups as purebreds if they weren't. She has papers that seem legit, and I am wondering if you guys think a pet store would give me faked papers…please don't rant about how horrible pet stores are, i know.
By saying please don't rant about pet stores, I meant PLEASE DON"T RANT ABOUT PET STORES. I want to know if you think the papers could be faked, that's it!

Many pet stores get their dogs from puppy farms. These farms are experts in faking docs. Contact the AKC (American Kennell Club) and see if the original breeder listed is a member and if your dog has papers, they should be able to help you determine if they are legit. If not, then file a complaint with the better business bureau and inform ALL family and friends not to buy from pet stores (do that anyways!)

O.K., I won't rant, never mind that your sister supported a puppy mill by buying from a pet store – never mind that that poor pooch is lucky to be healthy, but surely not a good specimen of her breed, but PLEASE do not perpetuate this horror by breeding her.

Aren't there enough homeless pups out there without adding more to the number>>

This shih tzu comes from a puppy mill, is certainly not a credit to her breed (though I am sure she's precious and very lucky that you took her in and love her). She's not a champion, you haven't researched her bloodline, her looks don't sound anywhere near breed standard – why in the world would you even consider breeding her.

As I said, she's lucky she's a loved pet, get her spayed and let her have a happy life. She's one of the lucky ones to come out of a puppy mill – very lucky/

Why would you breed a dog from a pet store already knowing they are prone to genetic and health defects, and not even knowing for sure if it's purebred? And please tell me you wouldn't actually breed her if she WEREN'T purebred? There are plenty of dogs in this world, do everyone a favor and just spay the poor thing. She's already suffered enough in this life without putting her through the pain and stress of having puppies. You can't love her that much if you're prepared to risk having her DIE during labor just so you can breed her!

EDIT: What is WRONG with you??? You don't want people to tell you that your dog is not worth breeding? All you want is to know if papers can be faked? Well here is your news flash: Unless it's AKC, it IS fake. ALL other registries will write paperwork for ANY dog if the breeder or puppy mill pays them their fee. They'll register mutts, it doesn't matter to them. So unless you have AKC numbers for the dog and both parents, the papers are about as useful as toilet paper.

I still find it DISGUSTING that you don't even CARE about overpopulating the world and risk your dog's life just because it MIGHT earn you a few bucks to be your very own puppy mill and force her to churn out puppies for your profit, without ANY benefit to the breed. DISGUSTING!!!!

Of course we all know pet shop puppies come from millers that are only interested in money. They take nothing into consideration, not the conformation of the dog- nor the health.
I'm sure the little Shih Tzu is purebred, but far from conformation of the breed. Lovely for a pet, not lovely for a breeding dog.
To consider breeding her is a horrid idea.
Please, she needs to be spayed.

Shouldn't have mentioned breeding amongst a lot of people who are against it unless doing it for betterment of the breed…
I doubt the papers are faked. There is no reason for them to be faked.

If you have doubts about the dog's breeding, it would be unethical to breed her. She is probably pet-quality and should be spayed. If you want to get a breeding dog, you will have to do more research.

If you really love her as you say, It should not matter if she is pure bred or not. As for a pet store it is anyone guess where the puppy actually came from.

Some stores will actually have documentation of where the puppy came from and the breeders name and number.

Please spay her and let her be a lovely pet. She may seem healthy, but you've already noticed physically traits that are not typical of her breed. She has nothing to offer to her breed, even if she is purebred.

When you breed purebreds that do not fit their standard, the end result is purebred puppies that do not look purebred.

Pet stores and puppy mills have been known to falsify paperwork. Some registries also seem legit, but they are not.. they are simply there so places can put "papers" on a dog and sell them for more money.
