Hi Rebecca,
Thank you for your email. I visited your website and I'm glad to learn more about my baby. This is my first time to have this breed so I'd like to know much about her.

As requested, I attached a copy of her photo. I got Kiera when she was 2 months old and now she's almost 4 months. She's born in Feb 12. I've watched her closely as she grew and realised lately that she has become bigger than I noticed. I love to watch her when she's asleep because she looks like a real human baby especially when she's dreaming (sometimes barks) and snoring in her sweet slumber…she's so funny.

I think we've given her too much attention and affection that she has now developed some bad habits like growling, jumping, snapping, and has shown some kind of aggression too. We live in the countryside and in the middle of the farm so when we're out, we're in the grass. She likes eating grasses and everything she can pick up like stones, brids' poop, or anything on the ground. She is also distracted with different sounds and moving objects around like birds, few cars, tractors, etc and starts to chase them. She bites her leash when we are walking although I have tried to control that a bit now. I learned a lot from your website so maybe I need to refer to this most often.

Thank you for the first issue of the Shuh Tzu Course that you have sent by email. Looking forward to receiving the rest of the material in the coming days. (...)

Roscoe is a 4 year old male Shih Tzu who is definitely my best friend in the world. I love so many things about him I couldn't possibly list them all, but one of the cutest things he does that really stands out, is the way he can make himself comfortable almost anywhere. In a duffle bag, clothes basket, on my clothes or shoes, in a closet etc..

Add this fact to the way he sleeps, on his back with his head turned way to the side, make it hard to tell which end is his head and which is his tail. Without a doubt the Shih Tzu is the most playful, lovable, loyal and absolutely cutest dog I ever had. My mom has one also and the two of them together is a show I could watch forever.

Our new house member is Bella, black and white Shih-Tzu.

She is almost four month old. She is a completely new experience to us,as up to this time we mostly had rather big breeds such as Great Danes. After moving to Australia from South Africa we moved into a flat (apartment) and having really big dog would be problematic. But Bella fits perfectly. When my husband is at work Bella keeps me company and is a reason I do not spend too much time in bed in the morning. For any Shih-Tzu owner is of course nothing new - Bella is so cute and funny. She craves my presence and obviously does not like me disappearing from her scope. She loves walks in our green areas socializing with other dogs. In the beginning she was a bit tense but now the getting together with other canines goes better and better. I need only to prevent her from getting spoiled rotten as almost everyone wants to cuddle her. Children are even more heel-over-head in love…

Here are three of her pictures.

Since the Tibetan Terrier 'Willy' (full name Fabulous Willy) won the trophy for Best in Show at Crufts Dog Show 2007, many people may now be considering choosing the Tibetan Terrier as a family pet. (...)

Since the Tibetan Terrier 'Willy' (full name Fabulous Willy) won the trophy for Best in Show at Crufts Dog Show 2007, many people may now be considering choosing the Tibetan Terrier as a family pet. If you are, you will be pleased to hear that the temperament of this breed has been one of the most attractive aspects of the breed since it was first established in the 1920's. As would be expected from a dog previously used as a watch dog, they tend to be reserved around strangers, but should never be aggressive or shy with them.

One of the features for which the Tibetan Terrier is known is their broad, flat feet. We don't think that such feet can be found in any other dog breed. The eyes are large, and dark. The Tibetan Terrier is one of the most ancient of all dog breeds, as has been established by recent DNA analysis. The feet have developed for mobility in snow. It has been said that the Tibetan terrier, is more of a herding dog, than a terrier.

It makes an excellent guard dog and has a powerful, siren-like bark which is surprising in a dog this size. It is also a loyal and affectionate pet, though it has a mind of its own and needs firm training. Although its coat requires regular grooming, it does not need a great deal of exercise. This is a playful breed and will enjoy human company in the garden or on the occasional foray into the countryside.

The eyes are large, dark, and set fairly far apart. Long and thick, but should not be so long as to touch the floor, as is typical in breeds such as the Lhasa Apso, or the Maltese.

The appearance of the Tibetan Terrier is that of a powerful, medium sized dog of square proportions, with a shaggy coat. A fall of hair covers the face and eyes, but long eyelashes generally prevent hair from getting in the Tibetan Terrier's eyes, and the breed has very good eyesight. As such, the early history of the breed is linked to only a handful of foundation dogs.

No particular colours are preferred, as with terriers generally a wide range of colours are permissible, however, liver and chocolate are not allowed. Although waves are acceptable the coat should not be silky or curled.

Breed health problems have been seen and because of that, Tibetan Terrier clubs recommend purchasing from breeders who participate in eye and hip testing.

The Tibetan or Lhasa Terrier, being such an ancient breed, is probably the ancestor of the Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu. The most plausible version of its history is that it was bred as a herder, working in tandem with the much larger Tibetan Mastiff which guarded the herds. Less hardy individuals were given to the Tibetan monks, who in turn may have given them to nomadic tribes to protect them on their travels; it is also possible that the nomads stole the dogs. Another account claims that the Tibetan Terrier originally came from Japan and was brought to Tibet by nomadic traders.

Like the other Tibetan dogs now popular in the West, the Tibetan Terrier has a long and luxurious coat. Typically it has a fringe falling forward over the eyes, a small beard and a jaunty kink to its tail.

It makes an excellent guard and has a powerful, siren-like bark surprising in a dog this size. It is also a loyal and affectionate pet, though it has a mind of its own and needs firm training. Although its coat requires regular grooming, it does not need a great deal of exercise. This is a playful breed and will enjoy human company in the garden or the occasional foray into the countryside.

we want to get my little boy shih tzu poodle a girl shih tzu poodle. he thinks he is the king of the house an were afraid he would get jealous but we think he is lonley during the day. How do these dogs interact with each other?

I hate when people say just adopt a shelter dog and the same breath tell you your dog is not predictable cause its a mutt. NO dog it predictable and rescues aren't for everyone. They sure arent going to be predictable.Chances are I wouldn't get a dog from a rescue. I think they are great but its a personal decision.

Ok now you never know if they will get along or not until you try. I think most dogs have the potential to get along with any other breed or mixed breeds. Pick a dog suitable for your lifestyle and that wont be too big to pick on your current dog. good luck.
