My dog is in heat for the last week. My male keeps mounting, but she is still nipping him. When will she get pregnant. She's a chihuahua, he is a teacup (imperial) shih tzu.
Will the puppies have long hair?
when she's about 2weeks in she'll get pregnant..she will stop nipping him then to and if she has a long hair gene then yes they could have long hair puppies..And omg I love teacup shih tzus they are so cute..

fertile time in heat?
Friday, August 15th, 2008My dog needs to be put down. Should I get it over with or prolong it?
Friday, August 15th, 2008She's a purebred mutt shih-tzu. I call her that because she's purebred, but came from a BYB. (I found out afterwards I learned the hard way!) I overheard from my co-worker that the dad is an imperial shih-tzu! (teacup.) I'd never heard of that, so I looked it up. Boy was I mad, but I didn't know anything about BYB's until I already had my dog.
She has genetic hip dysplasia, which is probably what started neurological problems. She stopped walking, eating, peeing/pooping suddenly. We've tried meds- she now walks but limps on her back legs. She cannot control her bladder, even with Proin. Doggie diapers made the mess worse. She doesn't usually leak in her kennel, she leaks as she walks. I can't keep her outside or locked in the kennel (jail as we say) all day. It's not fair to her, & it's not fair for my kids to have pee/poop in their rooms constantly. The vet said today there is probably nothing that will help her since we've already tried everything.
I knew for a while we'd have to put her down, but I've been procrastinating because I don't want too. After I tell my kids, should we just get it done, or wait to spend more time with her? She's in pain if we pick her up, but she seems fine if we just pet her on the floor so that's what we've been doing- trying to keep her as comfy as possible.
My husband is in CONSTANT back pain, and he wishes frequently that he could be put down! It's not that easy to just decide…..
She's barely over a year old! *sniff*
Her name is Harley.
Oh gosh, I am so sorry for you, your family and your beloved fur-friend.
I had a dog many years ago with hip dysplasia, once she got to the stage where your dog is now, it was very hard. We could up the meds, but at what cost and for how long? It was only a temporary thing that was delaying the inevitable. I did not want to let this girl go. It tore me apart inside. My kids were very small then. We sat down as a family and talked about this, and cried a lot. That was a Sunday. We made the decision to "do the deed" on Monday, the kids wanted me to wait till after school so they could say their goodbyes and go along if they wished. So it was.
I spent that entire day in the company of my beloved companion. We sat in the sun together and enjoyed each others' company. I cried a lot. When the kids got home we gathered on the floor around our fur-friend and read stories till it was time to go.
We had made an appointment to arrive right at closing time so that there would be no waiting, no interruptions and the full support of the vet and her staff. Convenient and nice….but it was still the hardest thing I'd ever done…. and it wasn't my first dog to leave me.
To answer your question….it doesn't get any easier with the passage of time…no matter how long or short. It's a dark cloud looming above that simply will not lift till her spirit leaves for the rainbow bridge. You and your heart will know when the time has come.
My heart is with you and your family. I hope you know you have a family of fellow dog lovers here who are all holding you close to their hearts during this difficult time.
Choosing My Dog?
Friday, August 15th, 2008Hi Guys,
Im In India.
I'll give you full marks for the best answer immdly.
Can you tell me where any of the below mentioned dogs are available.
Teacup Yorkies
Teacup Chihuahua
Teacup Maltese
Teacup Pomeranian
Teacup Pug
Teacup Shih Tzu
Teacup Silky Terrier
Teacup Terrier
Teacup Yorkshire Terriers
Teacup Poodles
Thanks in advance.
I won't make a blunder and say anything about the other breeds, but there is no such thing as a Teacup Pomeranian. Either the dog is a Pomeranian …. or its not.
The breed is specific. The term might apply to the standard of the breed. Typically 4 to 6 lbs. Over that size, and while non-standard is still a Pomeranian… in any since of the word.
Remove Teacup and you'll be fine…. as far as Pomeranian is concerned.
which teacup breed should i get?
Friday, August 15th, 2008im thinking either a maltese, yorkie, or shih tzu. they're all expensive so i want to get a dog worth $1000.
which is smaller? cuter? easier to train? like sitting in a purse? doesnt bark a lot?
The AKC and the National Clubs of those breeds do not recognize Teacup as a size.
It is a marketing scam. Also the smallest dogs may not be the healthiest. Tiny dogs need high quality food more often as they are prone to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Getting a dog just so it can sit in a purse as an accessory is not the best reason. They are still dogs, they still need training and exercise. Tiny dogs may be very hard to housebreak as well !
All 3 breeds need regular grooming also. Every 4-6 weeks. Check for prices, it can get expensive.
A pet of any of those breeds is not worth $1,000 to me (to me that is a show dog price). I'd say rescue a tiny dog or do your research and get a really good dog from a good breeder that you know will be healthy for many years.
With Toy Breeds, you need to make sure:
no one wears shoes in the house (dog may get stepped on)
you understand all the vet bills may cost more (dog is more fragile)
research the health issues for each breed(knees, heart, eyes, ears, non closure of the skull, etc….) The national club should have a list of health issues.
Yorkies tend to bark…they are Terriers.
Shih Tzus would tend to be larger than the other two breeds.
Maltese may be prone to skin allergies….many white dogs are…and it's difficult keeping the eyes free of stains.
Go talk to some local breeders that are member of the local club to learn about the breed. Try to avoid buying over the internet !
I had many clients tell me they paid large sums of money for a Teacup or Toy dog and it ended up getting much larger than they expected. Unless you see both parents and know the size of all the grandparents and know the breeder is honest, you are paying for a gimmick.

How do I stop my puppie from barking???
Thursday, August 14th, 2008I just got a 2 month old teacup female shih tzu and she barks when she is caged inside like a child safety gate and she barks when she is not getting attention.
She has food, water, toys and another female shih tzu to play with, but she still barks.
When I do hold her she is always moving impatiently on my lap and she is always hyper. What can be going on with this puppy??
First you teach it to "Bark:
Then, when it learns how to bark say NO bark.
Of course, you could try ignoring it, but that just might not work,,..
Never give it attention….when it barks
Or…
Get a can, fill it with pennies and shake it at the puppy when it barks. She will learn that when you bark, its bad…
Or you can get a bark collar expensive…
FOR hyperness, take her for a long walk before she goes to sleep or becomes caged, she won't have enough energy at all…
Occupy her with a toy..
(KONG stuffed with peanutbutter)
btw. we have answers liek this allll the time, search before you waste a precious 10 points.
Need help naming my Shih Tzu puppy?
Thursday, August 14th, 2008I just got a black and white female shih tzu, but I cant think of a name for her.
I have a teacup chihuahua named CoaCoa. I like cutsie names like that.
Any ideas?
How about Whitney?
where can i go about adopting a teacup dog?
Thursday, August 14th, 2008A tiny teacup. Pomeranian, shih-tzu, brussels etc,. Anyone that can actually fit in a tea cup.
If you want something that small why not go get a pet hampster or something, dogs weren't meant to be that small. Good breeders don't breed teacup sized dogs. They are the standard size for a reason.
what better shih tzu or yorkie?
Thursday, August 14th, 2008my parents and I have this deal that if I graduate gr. 8 with honors I can get a puppy and I just can't choose between the 2. they are both awesome dogs and I've done a lot of research on both.
now I need other peoples opinions so what do you think?
YORKSHIRE TERRIER OR SHIH TZU?
btw: no teacup dogs;P
It really depends on what YOU want, but I have to say I'm partial to Shih-tzus. My Shih tzu mix was a fabulous dog. Just remember, a Yorkie is a terrier, and it's going to act like one and Shih tzus are not going to want to be left alone.
