Teacup Shih Tzu

Toy dogs????

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

grrr i hate reading that you shouldnt get toy or teacup dogs cuz they will have health problems..i have a toy shih tzu she is very small she is 5 and NEVER has health problems so dont listen to these people!!!!!

To my understanding, Toys is a group of breeds that are small. Toys alone arent bad…Maltese, Chihuahuas, Chinese Crested, Pomeranians–all toys. These dogs are just small, they were bred to be lap dogs, and basically are. They are just fine.

Teacup dogs, on the other hand, are runts from one litter bred with runts from another litter (or the same litter, who knows) to make even smaller dogs. The reason these dogs are often unhealthy is that runts alone arent healthy dogs, and they are too small–their organs, their muscles (like their hearts) and their teeth, which will grow larger than their mouths, are all going to grow out of porportion to their bodies, and be a problem in life.

Because of these reasons, and their popularity, these dogs are also often bred by BYBs and puppymillers, which is another point against them. In addition to possible health problems they are raised in conditions that are potenitally terrible for these puppies, and sometimes they have no health checks.

That is why these tiny dogs are a problem. Your dog, being a Toy, probably is just fine. Just stay away from anything that is smaller than it should be–not good.

Doggie care?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

How do you take care of a teacup yorkie? I will get her in a few weeks. I looked on every web site for teacup yorkies but I could not. Will it get along with my shih tzu mix.

You are going to get a lot crap for saying "tea cup" on here. Much of it deserved but that won't answer your question.

Some tips for introducing the two can be found here:
1.) http://petcaretips.net/introduce-puppy-existing-pet.html

Yes they should get along fine as long as you introduce them the right way and make sure to give both of them lots of attention.

Caring for a yorkie is a little different than for many dogs, please go here and learn about the breed you just bought:
2.) http://www.yorkie.org/yorkie_puppies/puppies.html

^ this site is wonderful!!!
3.) http://www.elvisyorkshireterrier.com/yorkie/yorkie-puppy-care.htm

Congrats on getting a super adorable puppy, one tip though, they break bones really easily so be very careful, they are still terriers so they are adventurous at heart but physically as puppies they can get hurt really easily. Be Super Careful about allowing it to jump off any furniture.

what kind of indoor dog should i get??

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I want to get a dog that stays small and doesnt get very long…. I was wondering how big do teacup maltese get…
and which dog is better…… maltese, yorkie, shih tzu, or pomeranian……

I would say to get a maltese. My sister just got one. They are great with children and hardly shed. They definately don't get very big. Good luck with your new pup!

I want to bread my Purebread Teacup St. German Cockadoodle Mastiff?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

What can I bread her with?! I need good ideas! The best answer can have half the puppies/profit of what we make together!!! :)

ex- mini dachshund + wheaten terrier = mini wheats

Please no shih tzu + bull dogs…. I have a shih tzu and a pit bull, so I'm sensitive to those jokes…… *sniff*
Actually, I pulled it out of my head, not my butt!

Sheesh, take a hint from the other answers, it's a joke!

I've never bread dogs before, I buy corn dogs pre-battered! They are NEVER in a shelter, and I have not been responsible for one! :)

This was cute, I caught it.

but you really should be careful with your corn dogs, sometimes they get off the stick and try to jump the fence…

and be careful, your wheaten terrier could get damp from all the milk over them.

and your mini doxie, may need alittle more mustard…

i guess ill just get a maltese instead of a "teacup"
ok i had no idea they had health problems i just wanted another dog

Sure they will as long as they are neutered. I have 3 boys living together now and more to come as I can save them…..

can you help me on which dog i should get?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

here are the facts:
i have a dog that is 1.5 years old a male, shih-tzu maltese very friendly playful nice and has been neutered. The facts are that you should get a puppy if you already have a dog and the opposite sex? I was looking into getting a teacup version of my dog at this local breeder where i got him. should i do that? what other types of teacups are nice. or just very small?

Do you think that people need to "get with the program"?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Have you seen many of the sarcastic questions being posted in here daily trying to educate people? Do you think that these questions help show how stupid or dangerous an idea is?

For example questions on Giant Chihuahuas or Teacup German Shepherds. These are designed to show that there are reasons for breed standards and that it would be unhealthy to try and breed something like that. Or the mix breeding questions about a Shih Tzu and Jack Russell (Jack Shihs) or Shih Tzu and Bull Terrier (Bull Shihs) or Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso (Lhasa Shihs) to point out that mixing breeds for cutsey names is just wrong!

When you read them, doesn't the shear stupidity make you think? Do you understand the point of these types of questions? Do you think that the sarcasim will get understanding to people where reason and statistics fail? Or do you just think they shouldn't be asked at all?

they amuse me…but then sarcastism is fun and honestly if u deal or work in a shelter u have to make fun and jokes else u won't last long. while there is no real humor in the facts… some may think its cold hearted others understand how fustrating it is. so the Q and the A's from others is a relief form the OMG's what do i do's.
few have had the pleasure of taking 2-3 wheel borrows full dead dogs/cats from the freezer to a dumpster weekly…. *note sarcasim* if we didn't have fun on that trip….i would have never been able to work / help at the shelter for so many years. as i kid watch the older women who run the shelter make fun of the fact I to thought how cold of them. but as time went on there comnes an understanding if u didn't laugh you would cry. and coming back for the week the day the deed is done wouldn't happen… also when one answers so many questions of idiots who think breeding is a game, that designer dogs are cool…or won't have their dog fixed cause its againist god or whatever…

sooo go right a head if u want….maybe to let everyone in on the joke who does not know u or are here much..type the Q and at the end write *sarcasim* or something of like….but i won't be shocked if u go missing…cause of reporting and the powers that be of YA's.

OHH duhhh…i don't think it gets to the the ones u want it to…they wouldn't know what do if it for real.

Teacup Dog and Fluid Therapy?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I have a 9 week old 1 pound imperial shih tzu. She will not eat and is lethargic. My vet wants to charge me 350.00 plus 125.00 per day for fluid therapy because she could be dehydrating. I have a friend who has ringer solution and syringes. Does anyone know if this will work and how much I should give her?

this is why we warn people about teacup dogs.

please dont do it yourself. here's a thought, pay the TRAINED person to do it! your dog needs serious medical attention, not some uneducated person administering meds and attempting procedures on her in your kitchen. Your poor dog…
