I have a shih tzu/maltese cross and she won't stop eating her poop. She poops in the house while I'm at work and then eats it. She never really does this when she goes outside, but she is also on a leash outside. I know she is doing this because there are days when she won't go to the bathroom outside at all, which means she already has…inside….and eaten it. She knows she's not suppose to and never pees in the house. I have tried powder and switching her food. Are there any other options???
They actually make pills that you can give to your dog that makes them stop eating their poo. I had the same problem with my pug, but with the pill she has stopped completely. You can buy it at pet stores and also ask your vet about it, I bought mine through Dr. Foster and Smith online. I had no side effects from it. She still acted normal, ate normal and everything. I forget what it is called but it makes their poo taste bitter (like it taste good before) and discourages them from eating it. Good luck hope this helps.

Shih tzu/maltese won't stop eating her poop?
Sunday, August 17th, 2008what are some things i need to know before i bring home my female Maltese shih tzu mix puppy in a week???

You need to puppy-proof your house, which involves looking at things like a puppy would. Puppies chew and get into everything, so things like cords need to be picked up, shoes need to be put in a closet, garbage pails may need to be elevated as well. You need to assume to that she is going to get into everything, because chances are, she probably will. Good luck!
tell me everything about the Maltese x Shih Tzu and what i need especially for this dog thankyou?

TIME. Time to groom. Time to wash its little face. Do NOT use the chemical cleaners they sell in the stores. Warm water daily will do the trick. Time to train. Pick one or the other pee pads (I dispise) or outside. Use teathering or crate training.
These little dogs seem like they never run out of energy. If you want to be able to train your dog, tire him out before you start working on commands.

Should I get a Maltese or Shih-Tzu?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008Should I get a Maltese or a Shih-Tzu?
I can't pick I like them both ![]()
I've had a maltese for the past 2 yrs. She is a very calm dog and very loving. She likes to sit in my lap and sleep or next to me. She was very easy to house train. Shih-tzu's are cute too though. But I like my maltese.
i would love to know the most effective way to house train a 8wk old male puppy. Maltese x shih – tzu???
Saturday, August 16th, 2008i have never had a dog before so this is all new to me. any house training tips would be great.
First, close off a portion of the house you are prepared to have soiled and keep the dog it in. Only go into this area to play and to feed the dog. Second, plan on spending a lot of time watching your pet for the next few weeks. Third, get your dog on a schedule for meal times, including monitoring water intake. Approx. 10 to 30 minutes after each meal, take the dog out for a walk on leash and encourage bathroom behavior. If the dog does it, praise him up and down. If not, take him back in and try 10 minutes later until he does go. Repeat this after every meal. Finally, whenever you catch the dog peeing. Pick the dog up and put him outside. Eventually the dog will remember to go outside because he will have his "spot" that will be marked with urine and he will know from your encouragement that going outside is the right thing to do and it is rewarding.
Be patient! Mistakes will happen. And remember: If it isn't fun for the dog, why would he do it? Make all training fun.
My 10 week old maltese/shih-tzu pees in his crate overnight. What should I do?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008During the day my 10wk old maltese/shih-tzu plays with me and is learning to do his business outside pretty well. I crate him when Im not feeding or playing and he just knows when he comes out, the first thing he does is his business outside.
However, at night time we were keeping him in the bathroom with the crate door open and newspapers down but I was concerned that this sent a message that it is ok to pee or poo in the house. As a result I crated him in the bedroom for the last 2 nights with his crate door closed. He doesnt poo in the crate but both nights he has peed in the crate.
Now I am concerned that I will train him that it is acceptable to pee in the crate. Can anyone offer some advice on what I should do?
Rule of thumb (having raised 5 puppies at various times in my life)…
A puppy can hold their water 1 hour for every month of age PLUS AND EXTRA HOUR…so….
YOur puppy is 2.5 months old…He can only hold it for probably 3.5 hours max before he has to go…Get up in the middle of the night is you have to…it won't last for long…His bladder is not yet ready to make it through the night. Perhaps you go to bed early and get up late? I don't know…how long are you expecting him to hold it? You are NOT training him to pee in the crate but you may need to sacrifice a bit of sleep in order to achieve what you need.
GOod luck
What does a shih-tzu/Maltese cross adult dog look like?

Like a mutt!
Not all of them look-a-like the way a purebred will.
See the mutts that are Shih Tzu Maltese crosses below.

Any other MAL-SHI (Maltese & Shih Tzu mix) owners?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008Just wondering if anyone has this mix in their dog? I am curious what possible health concerns I should be aware of with the two different breeds?
Right now the 12 week old puppy looks a lot like a Maltese, because he is totally white w/a little butterscotch color coming in. I can see the face of a Shih Tzu more when I look at him. He is about 4 pounds now, so how large will he get?
He seems very friendly and not timid in the least. So far, he has been like a "perfect" breed (assuming there was such a thing, of course!), but I wonder if there are things I'm in for as he gets older?
Thanks! : )
TEETH, both breeds have dental issues… over crowding or baby teeth that do not want to come out on their own… and cavities…
A maltese ranges from 4 to 7 lbs and a zu from 6 to 12 pounds… so any where in there…
Cute…. they are probably going to be great pets… I love my malteses… cuddly… on my computer desk right now as I type and my big dog sitting on my feet…LOL
Watch any small breed dog for diabetes, hypoglycemia, liver shunts, and eye troubles …. ( bacterial and fungal infections can make a dogs tear stains worse)
All of these are in a folder on my desktop.

How To Or Steps to my dog from Australia back to singapore. I have a Maltese X Shih Tzu. 2 years +.?
Friday, August 15th, 2008Can anyone tell me ? I know dogs from Australia doest need to be quarantine in Singapore. But What are the exacts steps?
Also do i need to pay for extra ticket for my dogs ?
You need to contact the Singapore embassy to learn what is required to enter their country with a pet animal.
All airlines have their own rigid requirements too so you need to call FAR in advance to get their guidelines. Most airlines require microchipping, up to date vaccinations, and a signed health certificate by a vet (this has to be done according to the airlines rules such as 10 days before flight–check with airline on the timeline limit).
All airline have different fees based on weight/size. So again call the airlines to learn what are the fees.
