hi i am looking for a shih tzu female i am looking to breed i am located in ga and would like to find one in ga can be mixed and not spayed or maltese mix does anyone know where i can find one like a website i have tryes lots but nothing 100.00 is the most i can spend or free if possible thanks or if u have one that would be even better
PLEASE DO NOT breed a dog, I have a Shih Tzu and she cost 1,400 dollars from a breeder, and I had her fixed, a friend of mine has a Maltese and he cost 1,200 from the breeder so I don't see you touching a dog like that for cheap. If you are looking for a dog for 100 dollars or cheaper than you should NOT be breeding, shots alone on ONE dog cost around that, imagine a whole litter. PLEASE there are TWO MANY dogs in shelters as it is, don't add to that number. There is NO REASON to be breeding dogs unless you are an established breeder with experience, even then it should be done with extreme care not for the fun of it. I know if you are going to do this there is nothing anyone can say, but PLEASE think of the dogs in the shelter and all the ones that are put to sleep EVERYDAY because there is no place for them. Again all I can say is PLEASE if you get a dog DON'T breed it.

shih tzu wanted in ga?
Sunday, August 17th, 2008Purebred Shih Tzu?
Sunday, August 17th, 2008So my sister bought a shih tzu puppy from a pet store in Las Vegas, and really didn't have enough time for the little one. She sent the puppy down to me to potty train her, but just as a thought would happen the pup is now mine. I already had one little girl and was thinking about getting her a companion anyway, so it worked out pretty well, but I have some concerns about her being from a pet store. So far she is healthy and problem free, but she just doesn't look like a purebred shih tzu. Her nose is a little longer than any shih I have seen, and her tail doesn't curl the same way. I love her to death and she is just the sweetest little thing, so it wouldn't bother me if she wasn't purebred, but I am considering breeding her when she is old enough and wouldn't want to sell her pups as purebreds if they weren't. She has papers that seem legit, and I am wondering if you guys think a pet store would give me faked papers…please don't rant about how horrible pet stores are, i know.
By saying please don't rant about pet stores, I meant PLEASE DON"T RANT ABOUT PET STORES. I want to know if you think the papers could be faked, that's it!
Many pet stores get their dogs from puppy farms. These farms are experts in faking docs. Contact the AKC (American Kennell Club) and see if the original breeder listed is a member and if your dog has papers, they should be able to help you determine if they are legit. If not, then file a complaint with the better business bureau and inform ALL family and friends not to buy from pet stores (do that anyways!)
Help…Shih Tzu peeing all over the place?
Sunday, August 17th, 2008Okay, I just bought a 2 year old Shih Tzu, and he is potty trained, but once in a while, he pee's in the house. He knows he shouldn't to it, he gets all guilty looking after. He isn't nuetered, and some people say this will help, he is set up to have this done on Friday. If this doesn't work, I will have to get rid of him. I have a 1 1/2 year old baby inside, and I don't want to freeze him outside. Please feel free with any information.
Shih Tzu's react to different changes in the house and stress and tension and other disturbances in the house. You say you just got the dog. He may not be used to a baby. Not that that is a bad thing, he just may be reacting to something new to him. There are a number of things you can do to help. The first thing is to get rid of the urine smell or his "scent" that he has established in your house. You may not smell it, but he does. Buy some Nature's Miracle. You can get it at most pet stores. It is an enzyme that destroys the urine. Anyway, use/apply it everywhere has peed. Use it a number of times. Rugs are the hardest to get it out, but it will with a number of applications. I used it with my carpet cleaner and it worked real well. Spray or use the carpet cleaner to apply it on your rug…let it sit to go through the rug and the padding (that is important to get it completely gone) then vacuum/soak it up. You may have to do this a number of times, don't give up, it will work. Clean your floors and/or furniture with the Nature's Miracle. While at the pet store, look for a belly band. They wrap around the dog and cover his little "winkie". You use a disposable pad inside to absorb the urine, if he goes. I used generic Depends cut in half. It will protect your floors/carpet and furniture IF he goes in the house. I got one for my male, he didn't like it. He was fixed when I got him. He had it one 1 day, and because he was already house broken, he never lifted his leg again in the house. The belly band I guess reminded him, and also showed him I was the boss. Very important, they have to know you are in charge. Shih Tzu's can be very stubburn.
I also found possitive reinforcement helped a great deal. You say he knows he shouldn't do it. If/when he does it again, or tries to do it again. Let him know you are not happy with what he did. Do not be angry at the dog, just what he did. Moan and groan as you wipe it up and throw it away. Or if his belly band is wet be upset when you take the pad out to throw away. On the same token, when he goes outside, where he should, be happy and excited and reward him for his good behavior..Make a big happy fuss over him, letting him know you are happy at what he did..Giving him a treat helps reinforce this good behavior. Have patience and give him a chance. I know a dog is different from a baby, but, you wouldn't get rid of your baby if he/she had an accident would you?? You are/ or will be potty training your baby. And you will be happy when he/she uses the potty..try to think of it that way. I am not comparing your baby to a dog..but it is the same type of thing. Shih Tsu's are very loving dogs, and all they really want is good attention and to make their "humans" happy and please them. Show your dog how pleased you are when he goes outside…and he will quckly learn what makes you happy. And getting all the urine out of everything will remove his scent and make it easier for him…less tempting for him.

I have a very unsocialized 1 yr old female Shih Tzu.Besides obedience school how can we socialize her?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008The vet told us to keep her inside til she was fully vaccinated.BIG mistake we know. She barks and snarls at everyone and everything. My male Shih Tzu doesn't.All research indicates she is a lost cause. Can anyone help?We take her to lease free park but she goes on attack mode even with does a couple of hundred pounds ,she's not even 10lb.Help PLEASE..but please don't tell me my only choice is obedience school….
Have you either watched Dog Whisperer or read Cesar Milan's book? If not, you should.
Your shih tzu needs a leader, and like it or not she's looking to you to be the leader. You need to establish yourself as the pack leader and until you do you will have no control over your dog, your dog will remain agressive, and frankly, obedience school is not going to help her. She doesn't listen to you now, she won't listen to you then.
You can start simply by walking out your door first ahead of her. This sets the tone. I have a 2 yr old dachshund and he's stubborn as hell but smart as a whip—I've noticed when I make him sit away from the door and exit the door last he's more prone to pay attention to my commands when we go for walks.
Also, whenever she acts stupid…DO NOT in anyway encourage her by bending down saying "it's okay it's okay" or give her any attention. This only reinforces the behavior. Instead–stand between her and the other dogs, yank firm on her leash and tell her "SHHH" or something YOU can remember and be consistent with that will be her que to know to knock it off. This also tells her you've got the situation under control and don't need help from her. Until her behavior changes I would not let her roam leash free–she could get hurt.
Dogs want to be lead–they are dogs and they want to be treated as dogs. Start with this and see how it helps and in the meantime, watch the show or read the book. It makes complete sense.
Are Shih Tzu's Good With A Busy Schedule and My Situation?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008I'm hoping to get a puppy in the summer. I was going for a golden retriever, but my normal school schedule is quite busy. So I think getting a Shih Tzu puppy or dog in the summer would be a good idea. I've heard that they are pretty independent, but still playful. So are they good with busy schedules? I'm free weekends, but I'm gone from home approx 7-3:20. (school) My mom can take care of the dog of course, during school, but I was just wondering. Feel free to provide other info on Shih Tzu's as well. I really want a dog to fit into my busy schedule.
From a relative, I heard they are pretty hard work for the first 3 months, so thats why I want to get one during summer vacation which is roughly 2 1/2 months. She also loves it, and says it would be a great dog. Sleeps a lot, but it okay with being woken up to play, and adorable. ![]()
i have a shih tzu shes very mellow never barks. a lot of grooming since i keep her long hair. she does like to chew a lot so she needs a lot of chew toys and i get her nyla bones for strong chewers. shes very good with people and other dogs. they are known to have eye problems but i haven't had any. she loves to be held but yet she is independent. i do not leave her alone though she comes every where with me. i had an incident where she choked on a small rawhide so i watch things i give her. she seems to swallow more than chew her food sometimes i find her to be a good match for me you could always get a book and look up more info on them good luck and enjoy
Bichon Shih tzu mix has skin allergies?
Saturday, August 16th, 2008I have him on a corn and wheat free dog food that has no artificial additives that was recommended for allergy prone dogs. I have also added Omega-3 to his diet daily. He has been on this for almost a week now and I was wondering how long before I can expect to see an improvement? Oh and our old vet had recommended Science Diet for years and I think that has been the root of his problem since the beginning.
You are doing the right thing. Science Diet is horrid and vets are trained by Hills Science Diet about nutrition, so they are basically brain washed.
Keep feeding your dog high quality corn and wheat free food. My Shih-Tzu was eating science diet and had allergies just like your dog. I switched to a holistic quality food with natural human grade ingredients and he was cured. I don't remember how long it took, but it will worked. He's 9 years old now and he's better than ever.
I have been giving my little Shih Tzu mix Omega -3 for 2 weeks now, how?
Friday, August 15th, 2008How long before I will see a difference in his skin? He has dry skin and allergies. I changed his food to a grain free and all natural free from additives. Just wondering if I'm being too impatient to see an improvement. Thanks .
Sorry I should have included that my vet recommended the change in diet and the Omega.
2 weeks is really not enough time, but I understand the impatience…you want your furbaby better NOW! LOL But I think that 6 weeks is more reasonable. Good Luck!
shih tzu pekenise mix?
Friday, August 15th, 2008does anyone have a female or male shih tzu pkinese mix if so could u please tell me more about them i am getting a free 9 month old female shih tzu pekinese mix
Here's one: http://www.pawplacement.org/?A=0000002071
And another: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/shinese.htm
A shih tzu breed is a mix between a lhasa apsa and pekinese, so the pup may be predominantly pekinese in appearance.
