AKC papers?
We have a purebred Shih Tzu, we got her from a really good breeder, she raised and trained and showed the one male and one female that she has, so she only breeds them every now and then, this was her last litter, she is spayed now. anyways, she gave us a folder filled with papers, how do i know which ones are the AKC registery??
like can you send links of what papers actually look like?
thank you!
sorry, she went over it all with my mom, i was too preoccupied with the puppy. XD
my mom forgot, and her registered name i guess for now is Bella. thats it just bella. she told my mom that we could change it, she had to put some name on the papers. there was alot more to the name, but i know it has something to do with bella. her name is now Cloe, so that name was just temporary.
The AKC papers will plainly say AKC right on the top of them. It's not going to be hard to see which ones they are. Maybe she didn't give you the papers?? You should be able to tell without any problem at all..

I am surprised the breeder couldn't go over the paperwork for you.
What is your dogs legal name?? Look for an AKC registration certificate.
References :
you're best to call the breeder. they should be able to tell you exactly what to fill out and what to look for.
the breeder should have had the majority of the paperwork filled out for you and registered the litter already. so just give them a call.
References :
you can go to the akc website to see what they look like. It should be folded in half with things filled out that shows the parents' names and the breeder's names and their signatures along with a place to fill in your information and the name of your dog, etc. And it will say AKC on it. If you lost it you have to contact the breeder, there is no way to replace it without their involvement.

The paper work you are looking for is a 8 x 11 size which is a larger sheet that has been folded in half. It has a blue cover and has the AKC logo on it. Years ago it was a little blue sheet, barely 6×4 ish. Nowadays it might even look like advertising to you. Inside there are areas to fill out with boxes. It is pretty hard to miss.

If she is already registered, the registration certificate is on the bottom of a "congratulations!" letter from AKC. The certificate is Purple on a white background. To transfer ownership of an already registered dog, the original owner signs on the spot on the back of the certificate and the new owner fills out the correct information and sends it in with the appropriate fee.
If she's already registered, that name can't be changed but her "call name" can be changed pretty easily–just start using it.
If you got a puppy, it's slightly different. You can register the dog via the mail or the Internet. The AKC website has a very good system for walking you threw it. It's akc.org and go to "dog owners" and then "registration." You need a PIN to do it online and that will be on your paperwork and there are examples of where to find it. Here's what I found:

Congratulations on your new addition!
